Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is an intervention to remove excess cutis at the
level of the upper eyelid and adipose hernias of the lower
eyelid. Skin slackness or blepharochalasis associated or not
with adipose hernias (bags) is generally a phenomenon typical of
skin ageing. It generally manifests itself after 50 years but if
of a congenital character it may develop earlier. The
intervention consists of removing excess cutis and fat via a
small incision made at the level of the upper eyelid orbit
groove or under the lower ciliary margin, giving the eye a
younger and more harmonious expression. Belpharoplasty is
executed as a Day-Hospital operation under local anaesthetic.
The intervention lasts around 1 hour for upper blepharoplasty
and for around 1 1/2 hours for lower blepharoplasty. The
stitches are removed after 5 days and the patient is socially
presentable after around 10 days.
